Call of the Void

I thought I might go for a relaxing swim;
The reality turned out to be rather grim.
I waded out into the clear, knee high ocean,
Then dove further in and abandoned all caution.

Shortly thereafter I lost sight of shore,
And night time had fallen; the sun shone no more.
I had to tread water in dark cold,
There wasn’t a sight, not a sound, not a soul.

It must have been hours before I got tired,
I couldn’t feel my legs and my arms were on fire.
That’s when I gave up and accepted my fate,
This is the end, there’s no room for debate.

So I took a breath and relaxed all my limbs,
I closed my weak eyes and my body went limp.
The Call of the Void had knocked on my door,
And I answered as I sank to the ocean floor.
